Before that, a seminar was held at Hilton Puckrup Hall, Tewkesbury, UK on Tuesday 15th April 2008:
Through Life Support - The Future for Technical Publications and Training - S1000D™ and SCORM™

The 40+ delegates who attended gained a valuable insight into the impact that S1000D and SCORM standards will have on the defence sector.
Delegates from more than 15 leading defence suppliers attended the event including representatives from: Rolls-Royce; Ultra Electronics; Thales; Messier-Dowty; Lockheed Martin; GE Aviation; Boeing; BAE Systems and the Aircraft Carrier Alliance. Other delegates included members of IPTs and University academics.
All registered delegates received a copy of the essential guide “What you should know about S1000D”. This booklet contains details of the background and benefits of this revolutionary standard.
Topics and Speakers
S1000D, SCORM and the Training Data Module.
This presentation focused on the synergy between S1000D and SCORM, examined the possibilities for data re-use, and discussed the implications and opportunities arising from the introduction of the training data module in Issue 4.0 of S1000D.
Speaker: Ian Proctor – Technical Publications Consultant, CDG – Member of the European and the US S1000D Electronic Publications Working Groups (EPWG) and member of the US S1000D Implementation Group. Ian is also a Consultant to Boeing on S1000D.
CSDB and Training - Benefits of Topic-Based Course Design and Delivery
In an environment of increasing complexity it is essential for learning environments to be equally adaptive. It is no longer possible to create single purpose one-size-fits-all training courses and expect them to meet the needs of external and internal customers. By using topic-based structures and content management, training material can be authored and assembled to suit evolving requirements. This presentation dealt with the organisational and technical implications of moving to a topic-based training authoring and delivery system.
Speaker: Vince Savard – Arbortext Solution Artchitect, PTC. Vince Savard has 15 years of experience in publishing technology. Starting with a career as an aerospace technical writer, he moved from deploying and applying solutions for technical publishing to applying the same standards-based approach to a variety of industries ranging from discrete manufacturing to publishing and life sciences.
A Panel of Experts and Users with experience of implementing S1000D.

A panel consisting of Ian Proctor (CDG), Vincent Savard (PTC) and three representatives from BAE Land Systems answered questions from the delegates.
